Khan Academy always does a great job of explaining complicated subjects. In this case, they explore torque.
Torque is what causes something to rotate or fall over clockwise or counterclockwise; take note all you klutzes out there. They can be equal and opposite if they are balancing. Torque also is equal to force multiplied by level arm (distance from the axis of rotation). For example, the greater the level arm = the more torque. Torque also is able to balance a ruler or really anything. In order for something to balance it must have equal torques on both sides.
This video goes further in depth into the explanation in a serious manner. However, if your feelin' groovy, watch this thing.

  1. Nice job, Katie! Like you said in my comment, I like that we did resources on different topics. I agree, Khan Academy does a great job with videos. I find that their explanations are simple, and more in detail when necessary, just like this one. This video helped to expand my understanding, and made me feel more confident about torque. The second video certainly was groovy! I think we need to alert the Academy, because this could be a Grammy-winner! You should talk to Coach Davis about getting this played in the gym instead of the naughty words songs. I can tell you that I'd be jamming AND learning! Great Job.
